The journey of Otilia’s Restaurant traces back to Ricardo’s ancestral home in Mexico. It was there, amidst Mexico’s vibrant culture and cuisine, that Ricardo’s fascination with food originated. After migrating from Mexico to the United States, Ricardo carried with him a profound appreciation for the art of cooking.

In 2005, Ricardo embarked on a life-altering adventure, leaving behind the familiar comforts of home to fuel his hunger for travel. He immersed himself in diverse culinary experiences, sampling cuisines from around the globe at prestigious five-star eateries. Each dish he savored ignited his determination to bring the world’s flavors together under one roof. Despite facing humble beginnings, Ricardo never wavered in his dream of one day owning a high-end dining establishment that would showcase his love for gourmet cuisine.

Now the proud proprietor of a thriving chain of Mexican food establishments, Ricardo’s dream began to materialize in 2022 as he took the first steps towards establishing Laredo’s premier high-end multicultural restaurant. Felipe Vega embarked on his culinary journey at the young age of 18, driven by an insatiable passion for the art of cooking. Over the course of more than two decades, Felipe traveled to various countries that took him far and wide, allowing him to absorb the diverse culinary traditions of each region he visited.

His quest for culinary excellence led him to the prestigious Institut Paul Bocuse in Lyon, France, where he underwent rigorous training under the mentorship of some of the world’s finest chefs. From the bustling streets of Paris to the serene shores of the Côte d’Azur, Felipe’s journey took him to countless destinations, including exotic locales such as Cancun and the breathtaking landscapes of Patagonia in Chile. While residing in these diverse regions, Felipe encountered new flavors, ingredients, and cooking techniques, all of which enriched his culinary expertise.

Upon returning to Laredo, Chef Vega teamed up with Ricardo Kissi to bring a taste of the world to their community. Drawing upon their collective experiences and expertise, they crafted a menu that transcends borders, blending the best of global culinary influences into dishes that captivate the taste buds.
